NFL Week 3 to begin

This is where I expected my Bills to be...0-2 going into the first New England game. They are only 17 point underdogs, no problem, I sense upset! (As in the Bills will be up by 6 with 15 seconds left and find a way to lose.)

I have been starting to do some serious D&D research for new cleric spells that I haven't ever used lately. It is always great to spend time doing this, I feel however that I am still as lost as I was once I began the research. There are so many spells now. (When every supplement for 3.5 had feats, prestige classes and new spells, it is so hard to keep track of them all, especially for a guy like me who's memory barely keeps the Player's Handbook straight at the moment.) I am also looking at magic items, because it would be nice ti find more unique items, (although nothing could beat the Soulhammer I have right now.)

The Big Bang Theory season opening episode was priceless. I really am beginning to think that the writers hang out in comic book shops listening for the most obscure conversations because the discussion regarding Atlantis' toilets (As in Aquaman) was hilarious, and oddly enough, the conversation with regards to superheroes and bodily functions has come up in my life (Just last week as well before the episode, actually.) I am beginning to think that the Big Bang writers prefer DC Comics because their characters are mentioned way more often than Marvel's. We also get to see where Wolowitz's true brain power lies. How many people would actually do that? Let me rephrase: How many men would actually do that. I know that I was the other guys (and Penny) I would never accept any mechanical stuff from Howard again. (Probably a good thing that Howard broke up with Bernadette.)

My son is obsessed with the dishwasher. I'll never understand it. He cries when we close it when we're done. What is up with that? He also is getting very messy with spaghetti (or every other food that we feed him. Jeez!)

I see yet another expansion pack is coming out for Talisman. I haven't even picked up the Highland yet. I need to play this game more often as well. I have stuff still that haven't yet made a game appearance (some of the characters; adventure cards, spells and warlock quest cards.)

Well, must go as it is time to feed the wee one. Good day.

I got to level up last session.

Our party is now 11HD. I have a Cleric 7/Fighter 1/Hammer of Moradin 3 now. I am stoked because the two new powers I have acquired as the Hammer is Damage Reduction 2 and "Powerful Grip", which allows me to add one and a half times my Strength damage bonus one-handed with a warhammer. This is great becuase I caused a personal record for damage on a critical hit the other day (my weapon currently crits on a 19-20, dmg 3 times rolled (on 2d6) with STR bonus multiplied by 3 and it is Holy (add another 2d6) with a Power Attack of +5 on the hot (adding another 15 points). It was unfreakin' believable!) I think I am finally beginning to show signs of being a powergamer, I always liked interesting combinations, but spells have always been my forte. Of course, this is bound to happen when you play with a group of rule lawyering powergamers. One has to adapt, resistance is futile. (I wonder how Seven of Nine never 1) has visible bra/panty line, or 2) is "obviously cold". I guess they taped her like they taped Carrie Fisher...just a thought for everyone to ponder.) As well, as my DM allows me to progress as a spellcaster on some levels, I have access to 5th level spells.

I wish I was more skilled at real life tasks. I am so clumsily average, if not completely incompetent. Once again at our house one of the toilets decided that it wanted to be an Olympic runner, so I tried to fix it. I struggled for 90 minutes adjusting this, etc... and accomplished absolutely nothing positive except to make the toilet flush louder. MIT, come and get me, I'm yours!

Listening to the Logical Song by Supertramp right now. I find that this is a very underrated band. They were great lyricists, although maybe a little bitter and misogynistic. But they have clarinet in the music, so it's cool. (I just had a vision of the Catina band for a minute "Play that same song again! OK, same song...." By the way, that song is called "Mad About Me" and the band is Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, as everyone knows....http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cantina_Band) I love that George Lucas tries to slip real world things into the GFFA. (Galaxy Far Far Away for those that need to have it explained.) The band plays Jizz music. That will always be my favourite scene from the Star Wars movies.

I am so freakin tired. The melatonin is helping though, but slowly as I still have problems clearing my mind at night. I need to stop putting so much pressure on myself and just relax. This blog, for example, is something that I put pressure on myself for. It is supposed to be a fun lightheated look at the geeky things that make me me, and I turn it into a bunch of ikea some days.

A new Munchkin based on Zombies is coming out, I read on the Dork Tower website: (see corner rumblings) http://www.dorktower.com/2010/09/21/muskrat-ramblings-0-21-2010-the-munchkin-process/ . John K talks about drawing the cards here. It's interesting, I recommend you check it out.

Take care folks, off to hang with Aquaman.

Farmville is a piece of ikea....

I seem to never to be able to get into it anymore. Is the entire planet playing it now?

"I'm just a regular Joe with a regular job.." We all know what song has this as a first line. It makes me think about the new William Shatner show that is debuting next week. I understand it's based on something from the Internet, but I don't want to make unfair comparisons until the show has run for a little bit first (damn, I can't type tonight....) (And Farmville is stuck again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How does this game survive, I hate it!!!!Why am I still playing?) Of course, it seems that my wireless is playing tricks on me tonight, as well as I seem to be all thumbs typing tonight. Is there atmospheric problems that I am not aware of, or did I really think that Saturday Night at 7h51 EDT was a good time to try to play. It seems to be Facebook in general is having problems right now. This thing is huge and has lots of staff, I think they should not ever have problems, but they do. And it is a bunch of ikea!

(Saving your farm....that means reload the game.)

I want to enjoy life again. New things and changes are now necessary for me becuase nothing else is working. I could sure use some suggestions. Yes, I realize that today's blog is now becoming more and more about other crap, and I'm sorry. I try to keep this blog fun and happy (and of course, geeky) but I am just not feeling it anymore, and it is even worse when one of my little guilty pleasures of life isn't working right. It is bad enough that everything in life seems out of my control, this should never be.

Finally, the game is working right, I guess the morons have finally got it together now (It took me 40 minutes to get on!)

Anyways, once again I apologize for the rant. Sometimes, it is why we have a blog in the first place. Good night folks!

That Thing You Do...

What a great movie with a kick ass soundtrack. I really love it, and I am still surprised that I have not forced Mrs. Mattcaveman to watch it. I remember seeing it in the theater and coming out and banging that opening beat over and over again.

I have a D&D game scheduled for this Friday. Lately I have been scouring rulebooks for new spells for my character to use and I think I have found a good one. It will keep everyone away from me for sure. It's called Ring of Blades (3rd level cleric spell). Basically, it is a 5 foot ring of blades in all adjacent squares to my character (they move with the character), doing 1d6 +1 per caster level (max 10) to all creatures in one of the squares. No saving throw. Lasts 1 minute/lvl. And because my cleric is lawful, the blades are made of cold iron. Nice little spell, if I get close to creatures and cast in combat. Because once it's cast, I can attack again, The only sucky thing is i requires a material component of a small dagger (which means I have to draw the dagger and no one is likely to come close to a character with flying blades around him.) However, this is something to consider getting on a scroll (eschewing material components.) My character currently does not own a dagger, and as we are in the middle of a large battle, probably hard to actually get one until the battle stops for the day.

Listening to some Crue right now. Still can't believe Kat von D was with Nikki Sixx, and left him for Jesse James. Did you know she's only had nine boyfriends? Considering she was married for a few years and she's not yet 30, that's about average...why was that news?

I am just wiped right now. It is hard to think of things. I have been taking natural sleeping pills for a couple of weeks and though they work most nights, there are still days that I just can't sleep. Seriously, I am so screwed up in the head.

I have also been flipping through the D&D 4th edition rulebook this week, and I have wondered, if I base a Dragonborn (chromatic white) wizard with cold spells if he could be "The Frozen Reptile". I would like to create something a little memorable for myself, because I look at characters like Nuclear Dan and such and even my friend's character Grot Bonegrindur and I just would like o be able to say remember so and so..." I mean, Neverwinter Nights didn't even let you name your character. Were they afraid of "Fred the fighter?" "Nerdy Pete?" A@@holes of the month? C'mon!

Anyways, short one tonight. Remember your inner Buffy!

I finally finished NWN...

I started the game I just finished last year at the end of May. Granted, there was a seven-month period that I didn't play for various reasons (I had stopped at the part in chapter 3 where you had to go to the past to destroy the golems), but I decided a couple a weeks ago when a friend game me a copy of Balder's Gate 2 that I would complete NWN before I started another game (because I have gotten real far in DDO. Last comment - sarcasm) By the way, I am not much of a video game geek. I do play a few games, but I have never played Everquest or World of Warcraft. (I do have Warcraft 3 here.) I was hooked on Diablio and Diablo 2 (still can't wait for Diablo 3, will it ever come out? What's the holdup, Blizzard! It's been 10 freakin' years already!)

I have always maintained I would rather have a live gaming session than a video one, but video games are great when you are alone and have frustration to burn, and do have the patience to do any bonhomme painting. Now back to the summary...

The end was a let down, once I smashed the statue I found killing Morag so easy (it only took me 2 swings to kill the one protecting her from swords). The dragons and Aribeth were much harder to kill. (I guess I didn't have her ring because I had to kill her.) I mean, I hit three crits on Maugrim and took him down fast, and killed his flesh golems real quick too. My fighter only got to level 16, and I have grown a little attached to him (I managed to get his AC to 42 before the final fight), and I am curious as to what could me next. (I certainly got attached to Sherwyn...) Balder's Gate (The original) was a great game and I have no doubt that 2 will also be good, but they are of different rule systems, of course, and therefore, a different way of thinking. (By the way, I have started a tank in BG2, and apparently it defaults to lvl 7.)

The new High Elves book for 8th edition Warhammer is coming out soon. I wonder if my army will still get to go first always...it is the one advantage they seem to have (especially the Swordmasters of Hoeth with the large greatswords!) And I am curious how they will be treating the Phoenix Guard as well. This will be my third version of the high elf book; it doesn't look like it will be as weak as 6th edition was for the High Elves. (I really need to paint more.)

Montreal had a Comiccon yesterday. Is Ottawa the only major city in Canada without one now? Not surprising, as this city is the dullest city in the world. Seriously, watch the local population. "How DARE you have any fun that is not sponsored by a government organization that will keep it dull, bland and family-oriented." That is why nothing ever gets built here. Gatineau should really pick up on that and become the fun place Ottawa is not. (Ottawa must really suck for people in their 20s; I know I thought about leaving a couple of times at that age.) Even Toronto let's its collective hair down on occasion, although I think they have interesting cultural groups that do it more than the more established groups (hey, why do British people and their descendants have a serious stick up their collective butt? Here in Québec, all the francos know how to have a good time and are loud and proud about it.) As a Vulcan, and an observer of all this human ikea, take the stick out of your butt and create a fun city. (Bluesfest got 17,000 complaints this year. Who hates fun so much to complain? The Sun even pointed out that some of the complaints came from Orleans...only 30 km from where the festival is?) Thank God we have the Glebe to protect us from any business that is not a quiet, environmentally friendly, fair-trade, vegetarian coffee shop that also donates half the profit to goat-herding orphans in Bolivia, and the other half to Western self-hating groups. (I like this reference; it took a few minutes to get it right. More wheat germ smoothie-frappaccino with rain covered grass, floating in a man's hat?) I feel like I am making a difference (SNIFF! Just see the sarcasm dripping here. Worst emotions ever!)

NFL really starts today. Yeah!

Data is more than an android...

(Today's first topic may be offensive to some readers. Viewer discretion is advised).

For some reason lately the topic of Data and sex has come up. We all know that Data is fully functional, but the stuff behind it is causing people around me to talk about his love life. First, we know he had sex with Tasha. The question then became, did he know when to stop? Did she get "loveburn"? Was there a "Data stream?" Did his technique seem...mechanical? Also, this led to the next batch of questions. How did he get ready? Is there an android "Cialis"? Is he even attracted to women or does he qualify as bisexual or even try-sexual (as in alien species?). And why was he programed fully functional in the first place? Did Dr. Soon have an android fetish? If so, why didn't he create a female android instead of Data and Lore? At least with data, one didn't worry about disease or birth control...

OK enough, this is a topic we never need to talk about again. From now on, we will only discuss Buffy's sexlife, which seems to be a little on the cold side.

I was sad to find out that Wizards no longer has the license for the Star Wars games. Just as I was acquiring the sources books for the Saga Edition and trying to get people interested, I have the game cut out from under me. There are rumours out there that the Wizards subsidiary of Hasbro is going bankrupt and that maybe some of the game product will be sold. Will that include Magic and D&D. Only time will tell and I guess I have to keep staying tuned. Most things I am reading on various chatboards with regards to 4th edition complains that too much product is coming out for the game. I seem to remember that was the same complaint that led TSR to go bankrupt in 1996. Back then, the problem was that there were too many different game words (like Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, etc...) and now the same complaints are starting to creep up again. (I saw a Dark Sun product coming out, as well as a Ravenloft Board Game and Of course Eberron and Forgotten Realms.) There are 3 products coming out on one day in October alone. That's crazy. The revenue pie doesn't seem to be getting bigger.

God, I love the Simpsons. The Gummi Venus de Milo!!! Pop Rocks and Soda actually explodes. And Homer harasses someone (yeah right.) Shouldn't Marge know better? He doesn't even really show interest in other women.

Anyways, I digress, have to put the wee one to bed.

Listening to Appetite for Destruction...

right now, God this is a sweet ass album. Slash is killer.

Got to play D&D last night, and we had a new player join. We don;t know much about the new character except that she (the character is a girl) shows signs of being a kineticist, although currently from my character's vantage point, she could be a sorcerer. (Wanna hear about my character? Seriously? Do you really? That is so the most geekiest thing a person can do.) New guy seems to know enough about the lifestyle (geek, that is), that he could fit into our gaming group quite easily. And we killed goblins and bugbears and a dragon, oh my!

("I'm on the Nighttrain." I am amazed that a product that cheap could exist.)

People who know me know that I am not always clear in my speaking, that I go off on a tangent or that I start sentences in the middle. I wish some people had telepathy so that they could understand me better. Mrs Mattcaveman needs a support group for this phenomenon.

Well, the Toronto Fan Convention thingy quest has passed. I haven't found a single review about it anywhere yet. Maybe I should watch HypaSpace later.

I am really at a loss for words. I have always thought the worst character created in Buffy was Riley, and I saw him on a comic book cover the other day. How does this character rate his own book? Maybe I am just annoyed because I didn't like the guy (Does my bias show? I am so open to other opinions, really. As a Vulcan, I feel that I need to listen to other people's ikea just so they can feel validated for a short period of time. Can't you just see Sheldon asking right now: "Sarcasm?")

On to the important news, Big Bang Theory Season 3 comes out September 14, 2010. Season 4 debuts on TV September 23, 2010, and apart from the fact that Sheldon will have a date with Blossom, Wil Wheaton will be back as a recurring villain. I wonder why Sheldon only seems to have enemies? First Leslie Winkle, then Barry Kripke, now Wil Wheaton, and to a smaller extent, Captain Sweatpants (The last statement was a lie, I was looking for a way to bring Captain Sweatpants into the conversation. I really need to get out of the basement more.)

I think I need to wear glasses on a regular basis. My eyes don't feel as strained when I type wearing them. (My cat just popped his had up like a marmotte, said meow and just left. Surreal.)

Anyways, time to get some painting done. Au revoir!
