why I prefer Beverly over Palanski. Palanski was kind of witchy...(and I still hate Wesley!)
As I write this my son is playing with his current favourite toy. It is something that you stick pieces of vehicles in and the case you place it in identifies the vehicle and colour. If I hear "Un train vert..." one more time, I may end up saying that as the answer of every question I might receive lately.
My son loves music, you should see the way he intently stares at the TV whenever a theme song is playing.
The book of LOTR deals with Saruman so much better after his defeat at Isengard. I know the movie went on a different tack, but I think that by not including the Scouring of the Shire, the movie has truly lost something, especially since they added the Mirror of Galadriel, which previews the Scouring. Also, if they did that scene, we probably would have had some really cool cards made in the Decipher LOTR card game.
Speaking of that game, just like the Star Wars one, the company really dropped the ball deciding to change the rules after the first sets for all the movies were done. This was a really good game for the first 6 sets. Then the rules they added for the Return of the King and it kind of destroyed the synergy that the game had built over the previous two years. Then of course, when they decided to change everything after set 10, it massacred the game. None of the old cards, let alone strategies were viable anymore. I had a friend who made a seriously wicked halfling/Nazgûl deck that was very difficult to beat (this deck had about 68 cards in it). Once the new rules kicked in, he was only able to use about 13 or 14 of the cards in it legally. After the time, cash and effort that went into this deck, to have to change; he decided to stop playing, and all my other friends stopped shortly thereafter. They did the same thing with Star Wars (and the Star Trek CCG), but as they lost the license for that game, it wasn't completely ruined at the time the game stopped.
Isn't the concept of aliens cool? We can imagine them to be anything. The Greys of Zeta Reticuli seem to be the most common depictions of aliens based on alleged abductions, but anything is theoretically possible. It would certainly keep the scientists here on Terra busy for a long, long time...
With no Scrye magazine anymore, who decides what Magic cards are worth in any given market? And, whatever happened to the singles dealers? Sealed deck, as a marketing ploy has done its job, but at the destruction of the secondary market.
A recent experience at a store has again reminded me why I hate old people. We will leave it at that (check your lottery tickets at home like everybody else!)
Until next time...

A discussion of utmost importance...
I am watching old TNG episodes with my son and it has occurred to me that there is a serious fundamental difference between Star Trek and Star Wars...Star Wars has no time travel.
Look at all the different versions of Star Trek; there is time travel in all of them. They even have studies in temporal mechanics, and a Temporal Directive exists for Starfleet. Nowhere in the Star Wars universe (except for one minor character who was "caught' in hyperspace for 200 years...) is there any mention of temporal change. The mechanics of the hyperdrive for the most part, seem to be unexplained (although Wookiepedia mentions relativity shielding, which keeps a vessel traveling through hyperspace spatially in the current timeline.) Warp drive on Star Trek on the other hand, has better explanations given in the TV shows, (but there is more opportunity there), and can accidentally lead to temporal anomalies were people are sent backwards or forwards in time.
This makes more sense on a couple of levels; Star Trek has always been the more scientific of the two universes, with the Milky Way as the background, known laws of physics and current earth-bound theories were able to be accessed at the time of production; whereas Star Wars is more fantasy based and the science behind this universe is less important to the storyline than it is to Star Trek. Trek tries to have a standard with the Warp factor (for example) to measure the time it takes to travel between systems. (For example, in the Star Trek movie (2009), it takes 7 hours to fly the 16 light-year distance between Earth and Vulcan at the then maximum warp.), whereas Star Wars gives the feel that distance is covered almost instantly (given the 100 000 light-year width of the Galaxy Far, Far Away, and maps of said galaxy have Tatooine near the edge and Alderaan nearer to the Core, making this trip approximately 25 000 light-years, and Han Solo makes this trip in about "seven hours"). Maybe this is Star Wars time travel.
All of the time travel on Star Trek involves anomalies, yet everytime the Enterprise (or Voyager, for that matter, remember the Sarah Silverman episode?) end up in the past, they have no problems getting back to the exact moment in time and spatial displacement they were at when they left the time-stream. Obviously, they have the technology for this before the 29th century (where some of the future people came from "traveling" as tourists).
Without taking the time to watch everything, only a basic premise of this topic is possible at this time, but I will be returning to this topic as I continue to learn more.
Until next time....

I will not say anything about the Sens
They know they should have won Game 6 and leave it at that.
I will say this about the coverage. Somebody should show Bob Cole a map. He needs to know that Pittsburgh is in the United States.
Home from work today looking after my son, as his daycare provider is out of town. He is finally eating big boy food. I couldn't be prouder right now. He is here hitting the Enterkey

I love eggs. They are God's way of saying, I made chickens lay so many eggs so you could have omelets. Yum....
(Tantrum time. Doesn't want to be held, doesn't want to be on the floor. The terrible 2's have started.)
If dwarves (of the fantasy variety), existed, how many people would want to have a beer with them? I bet they would have some stories. In the same vein, I think that if elves truly existed, most humans wouldn't like them. But I bet that elves would become the most famous dancers of all time.
(He does want to be picked up...)
What is it about the spring that is the most refreshing? Is it the heat, the smells of the flowers or the breeze?
I think that Tolkien should have given Galadriel a bigger role in the LOTR. She seems that she could have done anything. Plus a woman who is 10,000 years old and looks that good...(with the description in the book, Cate Blanchett was a perfect choice to pay her) what's her secret? Is it Oil of Finwë?
And in the Silmarilion, why aren't there more Elves? They live forever, and they mate for life. Do they not enjoy sex, as the world does not have 11 billion Elves running around? I mean, Galadriel and Celeborn have been married since the First Age, and they only had one child (Celebrian, mother of Arwen), and Celebrian who married Elrond, only had three children (two were a set of twins), just to give an example. Even the humans seem to have only one or two children (except Isildur, of course).
Why doesn't Lucas turn the Thrawn trilogy into Movies 7, 8, 9? This was a good enough story to do it. Or why didn't he make Shadows of the Empire like he thought he would? The world needs more Star Wars.

Does anyone remember...
when reality television was called the 6 o'clock news? And we avoided it as it wasn't entertainment.
Reality television is why people are so rude today. They see people on television who ordinarily wouldn't be there (as they are no-talent hacks) getting famous (for about 15 minutes) by being "themselves" (usually involving being a a$$hole/b!tch behind peoples back) and having "personality" (which means being absolutely clueless and rude, and then acting all upset when someone calls them out on it.) Look at Octomom, she's famous for NOTHING except being a rude person, and maybe for having 300 babies. I think she alone is responsible (and the dad of course) for the world's population explosion. That should say it right there.
I blame Drunken Bill at the local redneck karaoke bars. American Idol starts there. You have all these people who can't sing doing a song at karaoke (which have automatic "tune-matchers" to make sure the singer never goes out of tune), and when Drunken Bill says "Hey you're good you should sing professionally", it goes to their heads. Therefore, when Simon tells them they suck, they get mad. How Stewie was right on the money when he was rejected on Family Guy.
Enough about reality TV. Except that Mythbusters rocks. Blowing things up is cool. Oh and 1000 ways to Die is also good.
Let the good times roll...
I can't believe that the Bluesfest has a day with the Moody Blues and the B-52s as co-headliners. That is a brilliant stroke of marketing. You'll have the pothead, artiste crowd mixed with the speed using dance fanatics. I want to go to this show. Also, Rush is playing on another day, which is a good time, having seen them back in 1997 at the Corel Centre (I don't care what people say, I will always call it the Corel Centre).
I really like Radio Rivendell. It is an internet station that plays classical fantasy music, like the soundtrack to the LOTR movie (which is playing as I type this actually). It's like having a background soundtrack for your life, which I think everybody needs.
More ramblings....
I think that after Paul McCartney, George Harrison had the best solo stuff after the Beatles.
Thanks to the small amount of rain we had last week, I did not have to clean the ketchup stain my wife left on the outside deck table, the rain took it.
Did you know that there have been six people who have been on Buffy that have been on How I Met Your Mother now, after the guy who played the Mayor was on last week. Unfortunately, I can not name them all yet. (I read this factoid on Wikipedia; isn't Wikipedia awesome? The guy who does the Irregular Webcomic strip contributes a lot of information to Wikipedia if you believe his liner notes.)
I wish McDonald's delivered. I could use a Happy Meal right now....
C6H12O6 3.141592....is just a fancy way of writing "sugar pie."
Thank you, and good night.

D&D night
I am happy that I get to play tonight. This campaign is the first time I have played a dwarf that I can ever remember. (I usually am human, half-elf of true elf). This is from over 30 years of playing. My current character is a Hammer of Moradin (cleric/fighter/paladin), which again isn't surprising with some of the characters I have played over the years. (Oh yes, nerd boy, everybody just loves when you talk about characters. Why not go gazebo-hunting while you're at it?)
My son stood up by himself for almost 3 minutes straight today.
Yet again, I am moved to talk about the LOTR movies. Why did they invent that scene where Gollum frames Sam for stealing food before they go into Cirith Ungol? Once again, I think artistic license should be limited at some point.
Aren't hamburgers awesome? I really like the fact they seem to be going haute couture now. There is a restaurant in Ottawa where you can get a 25,00 $ burger. Poutine seems to be going mainstream too, much to the chagrin to the "faux intellectuels" of Québec. I think it's cool. The first time I had poutine I was apprehensive, I mean cheese curds on fries, and have been hooked ever since.
More randomness...
Why did Chewbacca have to die on Sernpidal? That whole Yuuzhan Vong thing was a great concept, I guess some characters had to die. Han Solo has never been the same since, though.
Has the Force been with you?
Does it rain every garbage day where you live?
My cat Alfie seems to be getting fatter every day.
Last night was the longest game in Senators history, both editions of the team. It was also the day the Pittsburgh Pirates had their worst defeat ever in their 110 year history.
I wish I could have stuck it through the novel Dune, but I got so freaking confused. I got that women were the powerful ones and that there was some drug, but that is all I seemed to understand fully (oh yeah, and some large worms of some sort).
The Wheel of Time is a great series, just waiting for book 12 to come out in paperback. I am wondering how different the writing style will be since Robert Jordan's death.
Thank you for "listening".

Finding things to say can be hard sometimes.
which is why I took a day off the blog.
I received my current "PC World" magazine a couple of days ago. Haven't read it yet.
I am currently in the middle of LotR again. I am currently at the part where they are about to leave Faramir in Ithilien, and that brings me to another point about the movie trilogy. Why did they try to make Faramir a "dick" at first? The book has him as a good man the whole time. After all, he manages to get Éowyn (schwing!) to marry him after, like, meeting her what 4 times. Instead, in the movie he makes out like he's going to take the hobbits against their will...ah I 'm sure this has been debated many times. I would like to point out, loved the guy who played Faramir in the movie Van Helsing.
Van Helsing. There was an interesting movie. Not only is there awesome effects and an interesting storyline, we have Kate Beckingsale in really tight clothing. Definitely a movie that should be on every geek's "watch" list.
I am going to be home for a few days with my son as his caregiver is going to be away for a week or so. I have no idea what to do with the little tyke, as he is too young to be watching certain things and too old to sleep much. With no grass in the backyard, I am really going to be at a loss at how to amuse him so much. Well, I guess I'll just do my best.
All I will say about the Senators today is that they are starting Pascal Leclaire. Clouston must have somewhere else to be on Saturday night...
This and randomizing...
I wish that there were more specialty stores, like bakeries. It sucks to have to go to Wal-Mart to get everything now. Where is the personal service?
Speaking of Wal-Mart, they have great bargains, but I just think that the smiley face is a big target for snowballs.
My in-laws are moving and downsizing, and I have a lot more crap in my "special" corner. Where the heck am I going to put it all?
I love dice. I know almost all D&D players do, but I have a particular love of just rolling them, and getting dice of different colours.
Why is col ours a valid spelling option in Word, but I had to add "colours" to the dictionary?
I love sitting on the deck.
Thank you for your patience.

Is it the end of the franchise?
Just read not too long ago that Daniel Craig says that the next 007 movie has been put on indefinite hold. I wonder if this means that there won't be another James Bond movie. If that is true, it would be a sad ending for a franchise that has been going for over 40 years.
Can the Senators win a game tonight? The Crosby lovefest continues....
We are starting to keep our son up a little later every night (by that I mean 15 minutes later, he doesn't last much longer than that.) He is really becoming a picky eater. I can't get him to eat cereal anymore, and that is the one he needs to eat the most. Of course if he would just eat "people food" this wouldn't be a problem.
Warhammer...8th edition (?)
It looks like that there will be a new version of the rulebook in July available at Games Workshop. Great...that means two new army books and even more changes in strategy. It also means the Orcs and Goblins will be getting there new book first, and that means a certain friend of mine will get even more powerful units before I get a new High Elf book, and even then, the new Greenskins will probably still be more powerful ( I wonder which army is the most popular with GW fans...)
I have now given a colour them for my Vampire Counts some real thought and I guess that since so much of the colour scheme is dictated by the fact most of the army are dead flesh and bones, that a true scheme does not matter. So I will just paint the Lords as I see fit and go from there.
The Irregular Webcomic strip has been rather good lately and the Order of the Stick has updated rather frequently lately. I hope this means that Rich Burlew is feeling good again.
Have a great day. Until next time....

Even my wife can be geeky...
Tonight we were eating dinner together and an electric saw went off from some neighbour's house. She turns to me and says "Listen, it's the horn of Gondor!" Naturally, I was very proud.
My son watched the original print of Star Wars with me the other day (Yes, the print before it says "A New Hope"), and he was really into it as he loves music. The soundtrack for this movie in particular is intense, as we all know.
Speaking of music, I thought today I would discuss some people in the music business who seem to be underrated. I am talking about solid musicians who everybody seems to like but no one (at least that I know personally) claims to have as a favourite.
Alice Cooper - Seriously, his songs range from the crass and crude to the wildly absurd. But he is fantastic. Whether it is from the slightly sardonic "Only Women Bleed" to the fun of "School's Out" or the psychotic "Welcome to my Nightmare", this guy knows how a write a decent song, as well as a kick ass live show. (I saw him a the NAC in 1999; fantastic for a small intimate show.)
Styx - Except for maybe Larry Gowan, no one I know claims them as a favourite, and seriously listen to the songwriting. They took arena synth rock to a level I think has not been achieved since. (Not even by Journey, a really good band themselves).
Queen - This band has to be one of the best group of pure music talent ever assembled. Some groups were bigger, but the pure talent in this band of all four members truly shines. (Listen to John Deacon's bass lines on the rock n' roll songs; reminiscent of McCartney's best Beatles's work they have to be some of the most unsung work ever.)
Honourable mention to the studio bass player for ABBA, whoever he is, that is one talented player.
Tom Petty - this guy has made three chord rock into some of the best "feeling" rock songs ever. (Man, I love to get drunk to "Last Dance with Mary Jane" or "Refugee".
Last but not least, Mr. Blind Lemon Pye, blues musician that was inspired by the Rutles. (Left the railroad to be a musician, been starving ever since.)

Do You Believe In Love....
is a really good song by Duran Duran.
I'm not surprised Pittsburgh won last night. I am also not surprised that Spezza is still doing those OHL passes to nowhere. The Sens could not get any real offensive momentum going last night. Where has Alfie and Fisher gone to? However, you can't complain about the play of all the new kids. They have grit and heart BUT the Senators just can't match Pittsburgh night after night losing the possession and hit game. Campoli should be short shifted a little more, it seemed that the Crybabies got the puck deep on him everytime.
I used to think I would never hate a face more than Mats Sundin...well it's happening with Crybaby Crosby. I just hope Ottawa can make this series seven games so that the Penguins are beat up against their next opponent. (However, knowing the NHL way of fixing things for Gary's "lovechild" will fix the schedule so they have a couple of days off if that happens (In fact it already is set that way with a potential Game 7 for OTT-PGH two days before the potential game 7 for CHI-NSH.)
Is there any food more tasty and bad for you than poutine? There is "delicious" irony that the International Food Contest people are having a poutine eating contest in Toronto (instead of Montreal where they wanted to have it), and Quebecers are not allowed to participate, because, as usual, the Quebec governement regulations are too strict, and the fee to get government approval is higher than the prize money. Seriously, do Quebecers actually love isolation; they even have regulations not allowing them to play with anybody else (and I say this as a man who owns a little piece of the "Republique").
And another thing...
I want to turn my basement into a place where people want to come over. I just find it difficult to arrange to actually have anybody here because with the exception of myself, everybody has a life, while I only start with 20 of them and am down to my last one (Magic joke, for those that don't know, like the terrorist who meets the 72 virgins in the Family Guy....)
What can I do to fix it? It's gonna take money, a whole lot of spending money, it's gonna take plenty of money..to do it right...but I will do so. I have a table (9 by 5 ping pong), internet and places for computers to be plugged in. Granted I do have to keep some space for the wife and son.
I want to start a regular gaming group that meets more often than the sporadic group I have now, (Don't get me wrong, the I just have to find ways to meet up with people, and of course, decide what game system is being used. I have all 5 versions of D&D, 1st edition MERP, WOTC 2nd Star Wars, and would like to get my hands on Rolemaster, GURPS stuff, but I don't know if any of my local stores carry it. That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to try any other systems, I have played several over the years (I found my original Star Wars West End Games character sheet and my Star Frontiers character not long ago). I also have a 1000 point Vampire Count army that has not been tested yet, and I am about to get to 3500 points in High Elves (Warhammer Fantasy). I still have a whack load of painting to do (my wife calls this playing with toys....I think she's just mad because I get to tell people I do modeling on the side... and, of course, my Buffy fixation*grin*).
Useless trivia
In England, they call chips "crisps".
My cat Alfie is trying to snuggle up to me right now, while my son watches Toupie et Binou.
Have a great day.

Here I sit....
listening to ABBA trying to calm my son down. He is in a bad mood.
I invite him into my special basement corner, trying to explain that if I am the Mattcaveman, he is my little sidekick. Right now his behaviour dictates that his sidekick name be "Rotten" but he has finally calmed down. He is a good kid he just seems to be having teething pains these days.
Happiness is fleeting, grab what little bits you can every day before it all disappears. Like today, I was shopping at the drug store at work and I had to buy diapers for the wee one. The girl at the cash smiled when I was there, and asked boy or girl, how old etc.. I whipped out my phone and showed her the pictures of him I keep and she smiled and said he was gorgeous. That makes me happy and I embraced it.
This and that...
Is anybody else as happy I am that the Raptors missed the playoffs? (Another small thing to grab.) One can also hope that the Leafs also hand over an early draft choice again.
Some people think I have a very unhealthy love of Smurfette. Just because I have more figurines of her than say..every other Smurf means nothing!
Everytime I re-read the Lord of the Rings I gain a new appreciation for two things: Tom Bombadil and the Council of Elrond chapter. I really think the movies screwed up by not including Tom, but the Council scene was very well done. Overall, Mr. Jackson did a great job with the movies. However, that is still no reason to gouge the fans with two versions of the Blu-Ray versions this year.
I want a Blu-Ray player. It would be keen.
And to finish....
My son is going for a bath soon. He loves that. He hates the bed part afterward though.
Until next time....

It's Peanut butter jelly time!
Actually it's playoffs. Same thing really.
Does anybody else have problems with Farmville? My memory always seems to be tapped out playing it and it doesn't matter what computer memory I do it on (512 MB, 1GB or 2GB). Also, the incessant "Tell your friends this...." whether it is a "give a wandering cat a home" or "a farmer's daughter invites you to roll around the haystack" is just getting daunting. Why am I so addicted to this game?
I love cheeseburgers. I made some for dinner and my wife got some fries from the "Patates-mobile". Naturally, our son whines throughout the meal (I guess he was upset because all he eats is pureed food and I refuse to puree a burger unless I have my jaws wired shut.)
Ponderances...
Will Kate Gosselin ever get booted off the Dancing with the (second-tier) Stars?
Whatever happened to the "hot side hot and the cold side cold?"
What is the velocity of an unladen swallow? Just to throw everyone both, yes, both!
Do cats think in colour?
What is the appeal of a vegetable and fruit juice?
Why didn't Penny just tell Leonard she loved him? At the same time, why didn't Frodo tell Sam?
In the same vein, can I join the "Wesley Crushers"? (oh, wait, I don't bowl.)
Happiness....
Life is good when you get unexpected bounties. (As long as Boba Fett doesn't show up to claim them, of course.)
I really want to go on a vacation. Not a "National Lampoon" type though. Just a hang around the backyard scratching my butt kind of vacation, with some Doritos and beer. MMMM....beer.
Final Thought...
My cat Stewie jumps around a LOT. Where do cats get their energy? If it is from the little pellets I feed him, maybe I should just eat them myself, as I can use the boost myself.
Take care of your wife, and you get a shot of getting your hands on her stuff...

Have you ever….
Taken so much crap that you reach a point that you are never going to take anymore of it. I am sick of my psychological makeup which dictates “Don’t make waves…” Take it, and complain privately.
Not anymore. I watch everyone cut in front of me, give me dirty looks, talk down to me, etc… No more. I wanted to teach my son to have respect for other people, but what is the point when other people do not show the same. All people care about is their own self-absorbed little world. Even charity has become “Look at me, I’m giving 10,00 $, aren’t I awesome and generous, praise me for it.” I guess that’s why I admire Barney Stinson so much, as he just does what he wants pleasantly, but cares enough about the world to genuinely feel bad when he wrongs someone.
A different tact…
I like to cook (for others), I just wish I was better at it. My food is so tasteless; even I don’t like to eat it anymore. I guess the local take-out is looking better every day. Or I could make sandwiches; I mean how hard is it to screw these up?
Beer makes you stronger….drink up!
Is there anything better than sitting on the dock by the bay?
One last pondering….
KISS released the song Rock n’ Roll All Night in 1975. That was 35 years ago. Don’t you think it is time to change the song to the past tense of the verb now? They have accomplished every other goal they had in life I am sure, so don’t you think they would have rock n’rolled all night at least a few times? ;)

Good news...
I am happy. My appointment went well today and I will live to see another year, ;)
Getting stoked for the playoffs. Everyone has written off the Sens so anything they can accomplish will be sweet. I have to admit I didn't even think they'd get here...
I just read that Roger Waters is coming to town to play the Wall in its entirety. Probably going to be 200,00 $ a ticket. Too bad. Would really like to go see this....
My son stood up all by himself for a good 30 seconds today without falling, walking is just a matter of time now....
My basement is done and I have pulled out some of my little ones for painting. Just getting the base coats on as I still haven't decided on a colour scheme. I am going to put together my first 1000 Vampire Counts army list shortly. (Stay tuned. Really. It won't be boring at all!)
And the Big Bang Theory is a new episode tonight...seriously, who can't get stoked thinking about this show! I have heard a rumour that the first Annual Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock tournament will be at Gencon Indy. No truth to the rumour that Jim Parsons will be there in person to be the celebrity judge though.
I wonder when the next Talisman expansion will be released. It will be another L shaped board for the table.
Last words....
My wife has gone to pick us up donairs...garlic fest, here we come!

A confession....
I confess, I don't have much of a life. It is hard to have one with a one-year old. But it is more than that. I realized last night that I don't really fit in with anyone anymore. It seems that when I leave the house, I feel like I need to be home unless I am by myself. I don't understand. I know I have always been a weird one, an odd duck if you will. But I seem to be truly withdrawing to a smaller world and the thing is, no one has noticed.
A lighter note...
CBC has what it wants, Sidney Crosby playing against a Canadian team in the first round...they want the Pens to win too. So does the NHL. Ottawa might was well only practice the penalty kill, especially if Bill McCreary gets assigned the refereeing.
And another thing....
I love my cats, they are so quirky.
Things to do.
I have to paint my Vampire Counts Warhammer Fantasy Army. The thing I have to decide is what shall be the colour theme for it? Will it more black or more red, and what would make a great highlight colour? The majority of stuff will be dead flesh and rotting bones anyways, so does colour really matter?
I want to play D&D online more, as well as the PNP version as well. I need to have a regular weekly game. Also more time to play Talisman and Munchkin is a wish too.
I need to clean my house and put grass in the backyard. Everybody says not to plant before the long weekend in May, but at this point how much of a chance is there for frost the way the weather has been.
Final Thought...
Watching the NHL on NBC right now, I have to ask, does Pierre McGuire ever stop talking about Ovechkin or Crosby? There are other players you know.

Random thoughts...
Happy Alfie Day everybody!
Yes, Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators is getting the recognition he deserves. As the only Senator player remembered for things he did ON the ice, he actually deserves a day in his honour here (unlike Ms. Tweed, when they tried to pull that stunt last summer; come on she's famous for being naked and living with Gene Simmons...on second thought, she should have had a day!) I will bet money that his speech, if he does one, will not be as long as Tie Domi's...(Seriously, remember how much he went on about how much his wife meant to him, and promptly left her after he retired. How much of the speech was a lie?) Just one more point...DON'T GET HURT TONIGHT. Ottawa has this streak of having players get hurt before the playoffs and we have already lost Kovalev.
BASEMENT
My new area is finished, I just have to remove the boxes from unpacking my books...God, I have a lot of books (mostly Star Wars and D&D novels). However, I have found a couple of books that I haven't read in a long time and bear reading again. They are :
1. The Silmarilion (J.R.R. Tolkien)
This book is better everytime I read it, and it truly helps you to understand Lord of the Rings better.
2. Battlestar Galactica (Novelization of first series first show)
As cool as watching the TV movie/show was, this book gets into more detail and vividly details Beltar's shock after his betrayal to his demise much better than on the TV screen.
3. Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina
As my favourite scene of all time, this book gives short stories of all the alien characters that were at the Cantina that fateful day.
MORE USELESS TRIVIA
My son really likes Toupie et Binou.
I really don't know if Drew Carey and company were smart to mix beer and coffee, it tastes like crap and it really makes you want to pee.
My wife left a box of President's Choice Triscuits by the computer, I have to stop eating them.
And to quote Jeff Alberston (Comic Book Guy for those who don't know) "Worst Blog, ever!"

The best characters ever.
Today I have decided to simply go out on a limb and name some of my favourite characters of all time. This is no particular order, just as I think of them while typing this.
Wait for it….This will be ….leg…end…dary.
Barney Stinston.
How cool is he? Swarley can pick up anyone, wears awesome suits and has a great job and apartment, but he also has an Imperial Stormtrooper in his living room. As the keeper of the Bro Code and a master strategist, Barney is unmatched, even Charlie Harper does not come close to this.
Dr. Sheldon Cooper
Do I really need to say anything more? Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock!
Dr. Gil Grissom
We miss you, come back, already!
Darth Vader
His sad devotion to the Dark Side under all costs gives a certain kind of distinct nobility to him. He is truly the definition of Lawful Evil (so is Lewis from Full Frontal Nerdity if you read that strip). He has a kick ass patron who gives him the resources to do anything he wants. He hangs with bounty hunters, and the only problem I have with him is that he was replaced in Jedi with Hayden Christensen. I mean, come on, Anakin was a whiny little bum (just like his son), and he became so much more….Seriously, don’t you think that somewhere is a photograph of Vader drinking beer with W and the Superdevil?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
My wife would kill me if I go into details here, so I won’t. (Maybe one, Ass whuppin’ cheerleader!!!!)
Stewie
Whether I refer to the baby on Family Guy or my cat, they are cool. They have so many similarities it is insane. (I just picture my cat saying BLAST! everytime my son chases him on the floor.)
Indiana Jones.
The hat, the whip and the fact that everything seems hard for him. Enough said (Come on, getting in a fridge during a nuclear test! Awesome!)
Dan Fielding
For those old enough to remember Night Court, this guy was the most hilarious letch that ever existed. There was a reason John Larroquette won so many Emmy awards for this character.
I guess I should have said best TV/movie characters, and I haven’t even got to Star Trek yet. There are also comic book and fictional characters….well for another time.

Three people who have never been in my kitchen
Good day,
Today I mention about three people that I wish to meet.
1. George Lucas - Just to find out where the inspiration for the greatest thing ever truly came from, and maybe to learn about Indiana Jones as well...
2. Bob Kane - same as number 1, only we of course are now referring to the Batman. (Naturally this can't happen as he is dead).
3. The guy who owns the orange cat in my neighbourhood beause that cat keeps using my backyard as its litter box and drives my little Stewie nuts trying to attack him through the window. He, of course, would not be allowed in my kitchen because simply, I am mad at him.
Honourable mentions to Ringo Starr and Neil Young. They have never been in my kitchen either.
Change of pace.
Have you ever wondered why you are exactly where you are at any given moment? Sure, you can say that you have to be at work to pay the bills, etc... but really can any big choices make your entire life overall different (besides suicide, of course). Your personal make-up is your personal make-up, and I like to think that it means that you are where you are because you are meant to be where you are. Except for the guy who is doing cocaine at our work, naturally. You, sir, are creating your own problems.
Random facts...
I love tacos and am very upset that the Mexicali Rosa's in Aylmer is closed now.
That is all.

Good evening....
Welcome to the Mattcave....
Recently, my spot has changed. It is slightly more open and I can see more of the surroundings. I am getting used to it, but all my little "spies" are packed....
This may be the rantings of something slightly different. I will speak of topics that I need to have spoken, but there may be a slightly geekish flair. You will notice my leanings the more I speak.
Now let us begin,
I hate old people. I thought that they were of a generation that knew their place. You know, of politeness, and when things were "simpler". That they treated people with respect.
Their sense of entitlement disgusts me. They complain if they have to wait for anything. I paid more in taxes last year than most of them probably paid in 20 years, yet they get upset that their bus pass costs one quarter what mine does, or if I get in to the doctor before them. Excuse me, but I have to get well so I can keep paying for your health benefits for the health that you wrecked by smoking and eating bad food for eight hundred years. It seems that the majority feels that they can just stick their hands in my one-year old son's face, then get upset when he reacts badly. Please, if I did that to you it would be called assault. And what is up with holding up the line while you count out 3,46 $ in pennies, all the while telling us what you could buy with a nickel in 1708.
I will admit that grandmas are good; my wife has a great one, as does my son. But, if anyone is reading this that had grey hair before the Cuban Missile Crisis...give young people a break, once we are truly in charge, we may feel you don't deserve a pension anymore ;)
Now for something completely different....
Aren't cookies awesome? Especially with beer. While watching TV the other night I came across a Family Guy episode where the Keebler Elves went to war against the Rice Krispie guys, and Crackle and Pop were toasting Snap ( I guess he died in the raid), and I though that cookies would be great right now. Naturally we had none in the house but we did have the beer, so everything was good in the end. The moral of this story is I guess...If you buy nuclear weapons from Judd Hirsch, bad things happen to breakfast cereal mascots.
The Mattcaveman's final thought
Life is what you make of it. Take the time to ripoff the jokes from your favourite TV show/movies and incorporate them into your regular conversations. No one will quite know what to think of you, and you may find people will like to find out what you'll say next...
Take care of your wife, and you get to keep your stuff...
